More than 5,000 sq ft in bike storefront added to Highlands

In the last few months, at least three bike shops have opened in Denver’s Highlands neighborhood, serving an area that is filled with avid cyclists.

In June, Jason Gardner opened Jinji Cycles at 2538 W. 32nd Ave. after operating a bicycle service shop in the garage of his Harvey Park home for four years.

“I wanted to open the store in a neighborhood, rather than a shopping center,” Gardner says. “The community suits my business and my style.”

It’s also close enough to Interstate 70 and Interstate 25 so cyclists from other parts of the metro area have easy access to the shop.

And the biggest plus for the location? West 32nd Avenue is a well-traveled route for cyclists headed to Golden with Lookout Mountain in their sites.

Jinji carries bikes made by Felt, Argon 18, Handsome and Foundry Cycles, providing everything from road and mountain bikes to city-oriented rides.

The Panda Bicycles Concept Store, which features bamboo-constructed bikes, opened in September at 2513 17th St. In July, Salvagetti relocated from its tiny Platte Street store to a 5,000 square foot space in the old Lehrer’s Flowers building at 3800 Irving St.

“We grew out of our Platte Street location within the first year we were down there,” says Maggie Thompson, Savagetti’s sales manager. “We were in pretty tight quarters and the location was becoming difficult for retail.”

Salvagetti is now in the process of building out space in its basement where it will be able to hold workshops and community events.

A fourth shop, BOARDLife, is located at 2000 W. 30th Ave. although the store’s emphasis is on custom-designed longboards.
