CBD's Location3 readies new platform, grows at a 20 percent annual clip

"We've been focusing on our own technology for a year and a half now," says Location3 Media President Alex Porter. The soon-to-be-unveiled and as-yet-unnamed data management platform (DMP) will help clients find that "optimal media mix," says Porter.

Porter says web analytics are too focused on the user's "last touch" before entry, but the circuitous path before conversion might include social media, search and display advertising.

"You are not giving proper credit to other channels," says Porter. "Now we can see that full path and assign proper credit to those touch points."

Porter says the DMP "should be ready for prime time" in April 2013.

A relatively new (and local) Location3 client is ViaSat and its Exede high-speed satellite Internet access. Other clients include household names like Stetson Hats, Gymboree and Ace Hardware. "We focus on B2C customers who want to generate leads and sales," says Porter.

Location3 is also finding success in the franchise space and developing mobile apps and campaigns for clients.

Now 80 employees, the company started climbing a "pretty aggressive" growth curve in 2008, says Porter. "From a revenue standpoint, we're usually up 20 percent year to year, and about the same from an employee standpoint."

While the company is not hiring for specific positions right now, Location3 "is constantly looking for good people," says Porter.

It works both ways, he adds. "There's always people knocking down our door looking to come to Denver."
