RiNo-based Big Buzz wins awards and accolades for healthcare marketing

When Wendy O'Donovan Phillips founded Big Buzz in 2007, she didn't intend to specialize in healthcare marketing. "My first client was my dentist," says O'Donovan Phillips. "He sang my praises" -- and one thing led to another.

The five-employee company now focuses on private medical and dental practices. "We're the only marketing agency I know that offers full-service healthcare marketing that's backed by research," says O'Donovan Phillips. "For all of our clients, we interview or survey the patients or doctors first."

Big Buzz uses this research to develop brands and websites for clients, offering the full spectrum of digital and print marketing services. Clients are all over the U.S., and different regions demand different strategies, says O'Donovan Phillips. "The community in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, is a lot different than the community in downtown Denver," she says. "We look it at a case-by-case basis."

The strategy is paying off in the form of awards. Big Buzz has garnered the 2013 Cancer Awareness Advertising Award for its online work for Regional West Medical Center (RWMC) in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The project also garnered a Gold Key Award from BMA Colorado.

Big Buzz has worked with RWMC since 2008, first helping a group of 80 different physicians who "needed to have a cohesive brand," says O'Donovan Phillips. The award was for an online version of an annual report for the facility's Cancer Treatment Center.
